A breath of fresh air and a voice of sanity is heard at Sky New Australia. Host Rowan Dean talks for 15 minutes about what is really going on in the latest hostilities between Hamas and Israel. He is calm and his presentation is low-key, but his language is cynical and sarcastic. It is worth listening to in full but if you would rather skim my summary, I provide one below the video.
After showing two photos that changed history: the famous photo of the naked girl running in Vietnam and the Syrian baby who was washed up on the beach, Sky News Australia host Rowan Dean comes down hard on the “woke” media. He concludes:
How dare the Israeli government stop Jews being killed!
But let’s go in order of his presentation. These two photos referred to above arouse an emotional response that dampens rational thinking. In contrast, the photo that best represents the current hostilities between Israel and Hamas does not evoke such emotion.

On the right, Dean explains, are the missiles launched at Israeli cities by Hamas and on the right are the Iron Dome launches set to neutralize these before Israelis can be killed. (It is not foolproof and to date ten Israelis — Jewish and Arab — have been killed.) For anyone who cares to understand what is going on, this photo says it all: Hamas is attacking Israeli civilians and Israel is protecting their lives.
Two people who do not understand this, Rowan Dean chides, are Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame and British TV interview host Adam Boulton. Boulton is particularly disgusting, looking at his guest interviewee Tzipi Hotovely as if she is scum. And he makes it clear, Boulton does, that Israel should just let Hamas kill Israeli civilians because of “the settlements”. Dean calls it “leftist lunacy on steroids” when they blame Israel for what is going on in Gaza after Israel totally withdrew from Gaza, leaving it to be ruled autonomously only deciding to invest all its resources in weapons to kill Jews rather than build a viable society. The irony, Dean says later on, is that these missiles are being fired from the very land that Israel gave over to the Palestinians
at enormous personal cost of thousands of Jews and their families in order to create an atmosphere of trust and bring about peace with the Palestinians. How tragically naive!
Rowan Dean looks at the causes of this latest flare up of hostilities:
- Iran is taking advantage of the weak Biden administration and testing its resolve [Iran provides the weapons to Hamas and Biden is not supportive of Israel];
- This and expression of the vicious rivalry between Hamas and the PLO under Mahmoud Abbas — triggered when Abbas cancelled the upcoming elections, because Hamas would likely win the elections.
Boulton, on the other hand, asks Hotovely if it is not true that the current crisis was caused by Prime Minister Netanyahu who engineered the events for political purposes. Dean calls this supposition “pure Orwellian madness”.
In fact, Dean thinks Israel is being too gentle. He believes Israel should take back Gaza and wipe out Hamas.
No other country would be so generous to those who wish to anhililate them. … Forget the endless handwringing and the frankly antisemitic Israel bashng and Jew hatred that permeates our mainstream media.
He explains how the history of the modern State of Israel is summed up in the photo above:
A small, technically advanced democracy constantly having to defend itself from vicious assault sponsored by the Arab regimes and Islamist fanatics that surround it, encouraged and funded by globalist bodies like the United Nations and the European Union and the neo-Marxists of the West.
Israel is not to blame for the suffering of the Palestinian people and anyone who calls Israel an apartheid state or an oppressor is, simply, in Dean’s opinion, an antisemite. The true cause of the Palestinian suffering is their own leadership, aided and abetted by the enormous amounts of cash provided by the UN, the EU and Australia.
The Palestinian people have been mercilessly exploited for decades by a succession of Arab dictators, murderous Islamists, and fanatical terror groups who have never lifted a finger to seek genuine peace. In fact, quite the opposite.
The Biden administration is desperate to create a Palestinian state no matter who runs it. But how can Israel ever agree to a two-state solution with people who have sworn in their charter to wipe them off the face of the earth?
Who’s worse? Hamas who are in a sick competition with the Palestinian Authority to see who can kill more Jews, or, no doubt emboldened by those hardcore leftists around the West, including, disgracefully, our own Labour Party who only a couple of weeks ago loudly proclaimed that the next Australian Labour government will unconditionally recognize a Palestinian state?
