Seems that anti-Zionists love accusing Israel of “Judaizing” places on the map even though it is quite easy to prove that these points on the map were Jewish before they were Arabized during the Muslim Conquest of 650 that sought to wipe out (or convert to Islam, which is a form of ethnic cleansing) indigenous peoples across MENA (and the world if they had not been stopped in southern Europe).

Neighbourhoods in eastern Jerusalem provide great opportunities for the anti-Zionists to continue with their accusations of how Israel is trying to ethnically cleanse the region of the Arabs and “Judaize” it. In addition to opposition to the flag parade in Jerusalem, the eviction order handed down to a number of families in Sheikh Jarrah, a neighbourhood in eastern Jerusalem that had been under Jordanian occupation until 1967 provided another excuse for Hamas in Gaza to launch missiles against Israel in May. As part of the protests against the evictions, journalist Givara Albudeiri lied about having been injured by Israeli police when they arrested her for allegedly assaulting them. We can probably expect continuing protests in the future as eviction notices are being handed out in two other areas of eastern Jerusalem, both in Silwan.

But before these begin, it would be helpful to understand the background behind the Silwan evictions and why they are legal and legitimate. It should be noted that where the courts determined that Palestinian Arabs owned the land upon which a home was built, Jews have been forced to destroy the houses when the landowner refused ample compensation (always). Furthermore, no Jews are claiming rights to their properties that are under the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority, only those that have returned to Israeli control.
